A Brief History
The Laurelwood Arboretum was originally part of the Ringwood Manor estate in 1871. It was owned by Peter Cooper who established the Cooper Iron Works Company. In 1920, the property was sold to John Wana maker and his wife Annie who created a private garden sanctuary within the existing landscape. They planted thousands of trees and shrubs over their 35-year ownership period and developed trails for hiking enthusiasts. The Wana makers’ vision for creating an arboretum continues today as local volunteers and organizations help maintain this natural wonderland.
